Robie_House_(E_58th_Street_View),_Chicago,_IL
Description
The southern facade of Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House, as seen from the East 58th Street side of the entry plaza to the Rafael Viñoly designed University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business. Designed in 1908 and completed in 1910, the Frederick C. Robie House was the quintessential Prairie style house (sweeping horizontal lines, dramatic overhangs, stretches of art glass windows and open floor plan). This house was an architectural revolution, and remains one of the most important modern architectural designs in America. The original size allows viewers to see clearer detail. Chris and I were wandering around Hyde Park when I said "I think there's a FYW around here" and he said "Isn't that it?" Indeed it was. So we trooped inside for the hour long tour (so worth it) and then had sandwiches at Medici's and both wish we had a restaurant around Penn like that....

Goetsch_Winckler_House_(1940)_Frank_Lloyd_Wright
Description
Constructed in 1940 and remaining essentially unaltered, the Goetsch-Winckler House is significant as the second of Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian house designs to have been built. The house is the quintessential example of Wright's early design philosophy for the construction of moderate income housing and the end product of his first opportunity to design a community based on his Broadacre City principles. The house exemplifies Wright's vision of promoting democracy through individualized designs within rural communities and his attempt to deal with the housing needs of the Depression era. The Goetsch-Winkler House is a modest, one-story Usonian house. It embodies Frank Lloyd Wright's trademark design elements such as, organic relationship to the site, horizontal planes, cantilever roofs,

Description
The Affleck House is a brick and cypress raised Usonian house designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Sited in a wooded natural amphitheater, the house nestles along a gentle grade before its living area cantilevers dramatically over a small stream bed. A massive vertical brick shaft, containing the fireplace, kitchen, and utilities, roots itself in the ravine, grows through the main floor, and soars through the multiple skylights to the roof top sun deck. The loggia, open to both the stream below and the sky above by windows, provides the transitional space between the living and bedroom areas. The home's distinct functional areas blend to form a continuously flowing space. This, and the inter-relationship with its site, generates its special qualities. Information taken from National

Description
Listed in the National Register of Historic Places on March 19, 1999, and designed and built in 1950-1951, the William B. and Mary Shuford Palmer House is significant as one of the finest late works of master architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The Palmer House exemplifies Wright's open, American organic architecture in which all parts are related to the whole and are linked to the environment in an adaptation of form to nature. It is considered one of the best of a long series of houses based on a module, which is either an equilateral triangle or a parallelogram. The house rests comfortably tucked into a hogback and surrounded by a lush informal garden that drops down the ravine to the east and southeast. The landscape garden possesses superior aesthetic quality and constitutes an important ar
