Location: By a public footpath: the Dove Valley Trail, Silkstone Common, Barnsley.
Description: Bench with a carved stone pillar at either end and a central stone column. One end post shows a train driver with an oil can, this end shows a fireman with a shovel. The central column has the front of a locomotive carved on it.
Commission: Organised by the Silkstone Heritage Stones Project, composed of local residents. Commissioned in April, completed in July and sited in September 1989.
Comment: The Silkstone Heritage Stones Project has won the Ford United Kingdom British Conservation Awards Heritage Category and the UK Conservation Project of the Year (1990), the Yorkshire Rural Community Council, Village Ventures (1990) and The Times/RIBA Award (1991)
