Description:
Exterior view: Single container converted to a cafe. Location: Trinity Buoy Wharf, Docklands. Trinity Buoy Wharf has a number of the original Dock buildings still standing. These include Experimental Lighthouse and Chain and Buoy Store (Archt: James DOUGLASS, 1864) used for training and trials. The wharf was occupied by Trinity House for the repair, maintenance and storage of their buoys and lightships. Closed in 1988, it re-opened in 1998 as a centre for the arts and creative industries. The Long Player project (Jem FINER, 2000-3000) is based within the Lighthouse and the University of East London has Fine Art and Dance studios here. Container City I was the first of a number of container structures infiltrated onto the site between different existing buildings. Urban Space Management, who developed the site, have offices in another container building, The Riverside Building, elsewhere on the Wharf. Other examples of container use on this site include this cafe.
