Location: Thurnscoe Park, High Street, Thurnscoe. Signature: On the bottom left of the panel showing the angel: IS / 1924 (or possibly 1994) Inscriptions: On the capital of the pedestal: THE / GREAT / WAR and also: 1914 / 1918 On a plaque on the front of the plinth: ERECTED / BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION / TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY / AND IN RECOGNITION OF / THE SUPREME SACRIFICE / MADE BY THE ABOVE NAMED / PERSONS OF THIS PARISH On one side of the pedestal: LEST WE FORGET On a plaque on the other side of the pedestal: We will remember them On the rear of the plinth : THE ABOVE ALSO MADE / THE SUPREME SACRIFICE / IN THE WORLD WAR / 1939 - 1945 Lists of the names of the dead appear on the sides and rear of the monument: WW1: 76; WW2: 59; Falklands: 1 name. Commission: Money raised by public subscription. Comment: Restored 1995 at the cost of £7,000 (the money raised by public subscription) by Barnsley MBC. According to an old Parish magazine there was originally a cannon standing next to the memorial (its whereabouts are now not known) Restored again in 2009.
