Description:
Glass wall panel showing sheep's wool in use as insulation for the building. Notice above ("Awareness Point") states that: "Sheeps wool has been used for insulation as it's eco friendly, has natural fire resistance and its ability to rapidly absorb and release water vapour also helps keep a building cool in summer as well as warm in winter". "Welcome to Lockton, YHA's first Green Beacon Youth Hostel, an exemplar of sustainable tourism..." Its walls are covered with circular notices, "Awareness Points", highlighting the eco-friendly features in the hostel. The YHA's first eco-hostel, re-opened in March 2005 after extensive reconstruction. Originally the village school. Features include wool insulation in the walls and roof, a rainwater harvesting system, live sedum roof, a compost toilet and photovoltaic cells.
