Salammbo. A large sculpture of a woman entwined with a snake. The figure is in marble, and the snake in bronze. Sitting on a plinth in a circular space surrounded by columns and statues of similar look. The piece is dated 1899, and was bought in 1900. It was inspired by the book of the same name by Gustave Flaubert (1862). Segar OWEN was the son of William OWEN. The Gallery is a Grade II listed building founded by William Hesketh Lever, the first Lord Leverhulme, the Sunlight soap magnate.
