Model for the sculpture.
Location: Between the Grass Bowl and the Don Valley Stadium, Attercliffe. Google maps < https://goo.gl/maps
> .
Description: It is a working sundial. The shape was derived from the grab, a crane operated industrial lifting device.
Commission: Sheffield City Council.
Comment: The sundial, not an unusual ornament for a landscaped site, was specifically dedicated to Harry Brearley, the inventor of stainless steel, and works manager of the firm formerly on the site. It had been hoped the siting of the sundial would also provide a visual link between the Park and the World Student Games landmarks, e.g. the Don Valley Stadium and the Flame (not commissioned).
About the artist: Wendy Taylor (1945-) has made a second sundial called 'Timepiece' (1973) < http://shimmer.shu.
> which is located at the mouth of St Katharine's Dock, next to Tower Bridge, London. Google maps < https://goo.gl/maps
