Description:
Noticeboard at the corner of the green. Location: Walkley Millennium Green, at the corner of Bell Hagg Road and Compton Street, Walkley, Sheffield S6 (A-Z p.85 5H) Description: Feature weighs approximately 1.25 tons and is 3 metres high by 2 metres wide; the notice board weighs approximately 0.75 tons, and is 2.6 metres high and is 1.4 metres wide. According to the artist "They were designed to fit into the green with motifs of flowers and wild animals". Commission: Commissioned by the trustees of the Walkley Millennium Green after initial meetings October 1997 - February 1998. 50% of funds were raised by the trustees in the community and from sponsors. 50% of funding came from the Countryside Authority (part of the Millennium Agreement). The steel was donated by Steelshops, Rutland Road, Sheffield. Installed on 8th July 1998. Official opening by the Master and Mistress Cutler, Mr & Mrs Paul Tear, on 29th July 1998. Comment: Press coverage was very favourable, with articles in The Star and The Sheffield Telegraph. An item also appeared in Steelshops Magazine.
