Description:
View of the sculpture on the exterior wall of the Pennine Building. Location: On the outside of the Pennine Building, City Campus, Sheffield Hallam University. (originally inside National Westminster Bank, High Street). (A-Z p5 4F) Description: Abstract relief design, one half in steel, the other in bronze. Although not designed for the site, it is a very suitable for this location, particularly at night when floodlit. Commission: Originally commissioned by Nat West and sited there on 10th May 1965. Rescued by Sheffield City Council and re-sited courtesy of Sheffield Hallam University on 15th December 1995. Comment: The piece was discarded during a refurbishment by Nat West, who sold to a scrap merchant. Recognised by chance by a council employee, it was identified by the Public Art Officer and bought back by Nat West, after the intervention of the artist. This chance event has led the commissioning of another Asquith by SHU as part of 'Made In Metal Heaven' and his involvement with the Peace Gardens project.
