Description:
Exterior view: City Farm beneath the Byker Bridge (road) and rail bridge behind. First established in 1976, closed in 2002 to clean contaminated soil, rebuilt and reopened with animals in 2009.

Set in a small valley near the mouth of the Ouseburn into the River Tyne. Once an area of industrial buildings, including glass and pottery works as well as flour and wind mills and crossed by railway and road bridges. It has been redeveloped to include arts buildings, a riding stables, green spaces, a city farm, a music and performance venue and residential accommodation. The regeneration programme has been driven by the Ouseburn Trust, established in 1996, whose mission statement is to "work for the benefit of a sensitively regenerated Ouseburn Valley, built on the past and looking to a sustainable future."
