In December of that year five designs for a memorial were considered at a public meeting, the successful design being by Tyas and Guest, sculptors and monumental masons from Swinton, near Rotherham. The cost, £500, was raised by public subscription. The monument was unveiled on May 13, 1923 by Col. J.G.E. Rideal D.S.O. T.D. In 1948 the names of the dead from World War Two were added and Col. Rideal was again present at the second unveiling.
