Detail. Photographer's statement: "Inspired by the staged narrative, Sleepwalkers is a series exploring the fictional portrayal of somnambulism. Sleepwalking can occur when a person is roused from a deep sleep and becomes stuck in a limbo state, somewhere in-between sleep and waking. The work is comprised of various portraits each reflecting the strange, uncanny and often dangerous result of parasomnias. Photographing using available light I aim to highlight the cinematic qualities found within our everyday surroundings whilst creating a hyper-reality in the form of the narrative tableau. By photographing at night the images hold an aesthetic quality which appears filmic, adding a theatrical and psychological charge to the series, but continue to simulate reality through the use of familiar, suburban locations."
