Description:

Exterior view in the week before the opening of the London Olympic Games. The Olympic Stadium is visible right. River Lea in the foreground with City Mill River going away from the camera in the centre. Great British Gardens features commences foreground and to the right of the picture. The Tower was built as a landmark and visitor attraction for the Olympic Park to remain after the conclusion of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Formed as a weaving and interlocking loop it provides viewing platforms overlooking the park. The winning bid in a competition run by the Mayor of London and with major sponsorship from the steel firm, ArcelorMittal.
