Commission: "Derbyshire County Architect's Department for Beighton County Junior School". [1] The carving is made in Hadene stone from quarries in Cromford, Derbyshire. At that time Beighton was also in Derbyshire and press reports emphasize the fact that a Derbyshire School received a sculpture made from Derbyshire stone. Onsite Plaque: none Comment: Pope worked as a draughtsman for Rolls Royce during the war and then studied sculpture and painting at the Slade School from 1945-1948. He was resident in Ticknall, Derbyshire at the time that this piece was made. References: [1] ?Daily Mail? 27 February 1953. p. 23
