Exterior view: courtyard. Shared social space overlooked by the back gardens of houses - barbecue stands, benches and cycle enclosure (to the rear). Use of different materials and textures. Service bins hidden by screens. Barbecue stands in most courtyards. Seating, planting, lawns and paths. Play areas and occasional children's play furniture are located throughout the site. Built on reclaimed industrial land. The team included fashion designers Wayne & Geraldine HEMINGWAY. Car-parking is restricted, houses having designated parking spaces. Roads within the development are shared with pedestrians, bicycles and other forms of transport. Cycle use is encouraged and a shared cycle scheme is available for the development. The scheme won several awards including a Housing Design Award < http://www.hdawards.org/ > in 2005.
