Description:
|
Exterior detail: car park access and Drop Off Zone ("Kiis + Ride") on the hillside front of the building. This railway station was completely rebuilt by Calatrava as part of the redevelopment of the Guillemins area of Liege. It is an important European high speed train link which allows trains to compete successfully with air flights between Paris and Brussels. The station is completely open on all sides consisting purely of station superstructure and overhanging roofs with 39 steel arches. Lifts in the centre of each platform give access to the Kiss + Ride point and to the concourse, with shopping outlets and a gallery, which runs beneath the platforms at ground level. Two walkways at a higher level form bridges over each end of the platforms and provide access to the trains via escalators and staircases. Other related structures include a new road and bridge, the Pont des Guillemins, giving access to a 800 space car-park and the drop off area ("Kiss + Ride") above the platforms.
