Historical Hydraulic System which may have origins in the reign of King Darius (5th century bc). Canals from the river Kârun supply water for the city of Shushtar via tunnels which power mills and then cascade into the basin visible here. The system includes bridges, dams, basins, mills and a tower where the water levels are monitored. Designated a World Heritage Site.

Duncan Horne, an architect, left a collection of slide transparencies on his death. These were donated to Sheffield Hallam University's Slide Collection by his daughter in 2007. Duncan Horne trained in Liverpool, and then worked in London for Maxwell FRY, Jane DREW, and Partners. He moved to Australia in 1965 where he worked with Bert HELY.
