Description:
|
Exterior view: side view of the memorial with the US Embassy (Architect: SAARINEN, 1960) in the background. The statue was paid for by selling a souvenir brochure - when this made available to the public the money required was raised in six days. It was unveiled on April 12, 1948 by Eleanor Roosevelt in the presence of members of the Royal Family, the Prime Minister Clement Attlee and the Leader of the Opposition Sir Winston Churchill.
