Description:
Exterior view (left to right): View of Lime Street with The Round (theatre and home to Bruvvers Theatre Company), 36 Lime Street (artists' studio group representing an eclectic mix of artists, designers, makers, performers and musicians) and Seven Stories (The Centre for Children's Books). The latter was once a flour mill (built by John DOBSON in 1848), the others part of a whisky bottling plant. The tall structure to the left is a chimney. Set in a small valley near the mouth of the Ouseburn into the River Tyne. Once an area of industrial buildings, including glass and pottery works as well as flour and wind mills and crossed by railway and road bridges. It has been redeveloped to include arts buildings, a riding stables, green spaces, a city farm, a music and performance venue and residential accommodation. The regeneration programme has been driven by the Ouseburn Trust, established in 1996, whose mission statement is to "work for the benefit of a sensitively regenerated Ouseburn Valley, built on the past and looking to a sustainable future."
