Left hand side of the memorial - figures preparing to escape across the river. War memorials of this kind were not installed until after the collapse of the Soviet Union. This is located on the site of some of this fiercest fighting of the Warsaw Uprising. Photographed the day after the anniversary of the Uprising: candles, jars and floral tributes have been left all over the area.
