Heart of the city
View over the terraced garden with retaining wall with mosaic 'rill' in the middle distance. The drain for the water from the rill is at the extreme left of the picture. Location: Howard Street. Description: A terraced lawn with a retaining wall whose top contains a mosaic channel (Designed by Emma BIGGS). Water flows down the channel from a small dome at the top of the wall into a depression at the wall's lowest part. 2000 fibre optic lights are set in the stonework around the mosaic channel. Stainless steel railings with tong-shaped elements (Designed by the Regeneration Projects Design Section, Sheffield City Council) contain the flower beds on opposite side of the terraced lawn. Commission: Part of the Heart of the City redevelopment. Emma Biggs worked with the City Council's Regeneration Projects Design Section on this project. Opened by Cllr Jan Wilson on 21 December 2005.
