General view looking towards Lady Bridge with adjacent shops and a section of Castle Market. Location: Waingate Description: A painted, black letters on white background, opticians chart covers the gable end at the end of Waingate near Lady's Bridge. [Update 2003] The paintwork is now in poor condition; it badly needs re-painting. Commission: Sheffield City Council. The wall was in poor condition and visually messy. The artist's solution gave it a clear visual appearance. Comment: The chart covers several different adjoining gable ends to the building and thus contrives to make a messy series of brick facades appear as a single surface. One of the adjacent shops is that of an optician. There were some complaints from adjacent businesses that the wall advertised the optician's to their disadvantage.
