Exterior view - view down the back lane between two rows of terraced workers' housing. Those on the right have fronts onto Caroline Street. Saltaire itself was built from 1851 by Sir Titus Salt (1803-1876). It contained his mills; housing for workers; hospital, institute and schools for their use and a park.
