Description:
|
General view near the River Mersey at Albert Dock. This piece was shown at the Gateshead Garden Festival in 1990. A sign by the sculpture reads: Tony Cragg returned to his hometown of Liverpool to make a sculpture for this site beside the Tate. He used different materials from those he normally worked with to respond to the dock site and Liverpool's tradition of heavy industry. He selected two granite and a number of cast iron bollards from an artefact store and the casts for the sculpture were made from Tony Cragg's drawings by a local foundry. The horns symbolize (sic) a fanfare of greeting or farewell, and also suggest messages carried across the water.
