The bronze information plaque on the roofed stand is a pictorial map of the village. Sited next to the Lowry sculpture sited on a bronze bench at Jollie's Corner in Mottram. Lowry lived for the last 21 years of his life in a house near this junction, which has been re-landscaped. The Tameside MBC's State of the Area address, November 2006, states: "We are promoting our heritage through an extensive public art programme that celebrates figures from Tameside's past. A series of statues has been commissioned to bring public art to everybody and create pride in our borough." This statue of Lowry was the second to be erected.
