Description:
|
View of the plinth and papers blowing off it onto the paving. Attwood was one of Birmingham's first two MP's and a prominent agitator for Parliamentary reforms. The monument in Chamberlain Square consists of a lifesize sculpture of Attwood reclining, feather quill in hand on steps in the Square. He is studying a paper on which the words: Prosperity Restored are written. Other loose papers are scattered above the steps and on a small plinth, apparantly abandoned by Attwood's statue. These read: Demand for Change ; The Remedy ; Votes For All ; Full Employment ; Free Trade. Inscriptions in the stone of the steps read: Prosperity ; The Vote ; Reform .
