Description:
|
Photograph taken on April 17 at Leepings Lane entrance to Hillsborough football stadium. 96 Liverpool fans were killed at the ground on April 15 at an FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. Mass floral, memorablia and written tributes appeared both here and at Anfield, Liverpool's home ground, in the few days following the tragedy. It was the first occasion when the marking of scenes of accident became a widespread activity. In sheer volume of material left in tribute or mourning, it was only surpassed on the occasion of Princess Diana's funeral.
