Description:
|
A view of the meat market, housed underneath a glass and metal ceiling. The main stall is named 'The Quality Shop'. The earliest part of the markets comprised of the fish and vegetable stalls and was built in the inter-war period, the remaining building as we see today off Exchange Street, was completed in 1965. The foundations were built on the original site of Sheffield Castle, an excavation in 1927 revealed part of the base of one of the towers, which is open to the public via a pre-arranged appointment.
