Description:

Sculpture. Location: All Saints RC School, Granville Road, S2. Description: The semi-relief figure of the saint is fixed to a brick wall at first storey level. He is seated on the ground with one hand on the ground for support and the other shielding his eyes. The material used appears to be fibreglass. Subject: The scene depicted is that of the saint's conversion on the road to Damascus. Acts 9:1-8. St Paul "fell to the ground" when a light from heaven shone down on him and a voice cried out: "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?". Commission: not known. Comment: The school was one of three RC schools built at the same time in Sheffield and was originally dedicated to St Peter. The three schools were amalgamated into one at this site, renamed 'All Saints'.
