Description:
Detail: section of railings. Location: Outside the St Marie's R.C. Cathedral, along its Norfolk Row front. Description: The railings have red glass 'lights' enclosed at the top of each vertical. They are made from painted mild steel and glass - some people say they resemble angels wings. Commission: 'Made in Metal Heaven' is a project in which 5 metalwork pieces were made and installed in Sheffield City Centre. 6 craftworkers produced ideas for each site. These sketches were used to select which artist would work on which site. The final piece was installed at the beginning of 1998. Sheffield City Council as part of the Metal Heaven Project. Funding for this project came from a variety of sources: the Crafts Council; the European Community; Sheffield Hallam University; Yorkshire and Humberside Arts; Arts and Museums, Leisures Services, Sheffield; Sheffield City Council and the Foundation for sport and the arts.
