Description:
Location: The bottom of Fargate at the entrance to Chapel Walk. They were removed during reburbishment of the lower end of Fargate and have not yet been replaced. (A-Z p5 3E) [Update 2005] In 2002 the planters were temporarily installed in nearby George Street during refurbishment as a traffic prevention measure! They have since been removed again. We have no information on further plans for these pieces. Description: Three planters - one large and two small. The sides of the pieces have concave faces decorated with etched copper somewhat resembling giant pumpkins. Commission: Sheffield City Council as part of the Metal Heaven Project. Funding for this project came from a variety of sources: the Crafts Council; the European Community; Sheffield Hallam University; Yorkshire and Humberside Arts; Arts and Museums, Leisures Services, Sheffield; Sheffield City Council and the Foundation for sport and the arts. The planters were manufactured at Mayflower Engineering in Sheffield as part of the 'Made in Metal Heaven' Project of 1997.
