Description:
|
View through legs over fields Sited on the Shortwood Branch line, which leaves the main line at Mangotsfield Station (5 miles from Bristol) The 15 mile long railway path was built by Sustrans between 1979 and 1985. The sculpture trail was created by Katy Hallett with support and sponsorship from a large number of public and private institutions. Further work is being added by Alison Scott. Sustrans includes artworks on its trails because it says: "The inclusion of artworks, waymarkers, environmental earthworks and landscape sculptures are an essential component, which reflect the local characteristics of passing settlements and communities. The artworks are in stark contrast to highway signage, bringing diversity and uniqueness to different sections of the route. They encourage people to travel along this corridor and to discover something special for themselves where sustainability, safety and enjoyment are equal criteria in this new travelling landscape."
