Detail view. Fish head and worm. Location: Children's Playarea, Crookes Valley Park. Description: Bench carved from a tree trunk resting on its side. The carving depicts many creatures from the natural world including; a spider, ladybird, bat, owl, butterfly, flower, large fish, worm, and a squirrel. The Bench is set in an enclosed children's play area and was carved by local children under the artist's supervision. This Playground is surrounded by a metal fence, painted blue, which incorporates cut out animal images designed by David Mayne Commission: Sheffield Children's Festival 1996. Inscription: his is on a metal plaque fixed to one end of the bench and reads: "Sheffield Children's Festival / 1996 / Carved by children from / Daniel Hill, Nether Green Infants, Pipworth, / Springfield, Tapton and Westways Schools / under the direction of / Jason Thomson / Project supported by / Gripple Ltd., Lloyds Bank, Davy International / Sheffield Education Business Partnership / J.G.Graves Trust, Wm. Marples, Mitchells Garden Machinery, / Sheffield Wildlife Trust"
