Description:
Planters made while working with children at the school. Location: Sunnyvale Road, Totley Primary School. On an exterior wall to the right of the main entrance. Description: The artist designed, carved and built the sculpture, based on a theme of 'science', at the school site. The resulting relief depicts a kneeling girl with arm outstretched, pointing towards shooting stars and a passing rocket. Commission: Totley Primary School. Supported by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of England. Materials donated by Ibstock Brick Nostell Ltd and Naylor Clayware Ltd. Comment: The artist also worked with the children at the school to produce planters and a ceramic figure, which is attached to the wall at the main entrance. Jason Thomson also worked on this project and made a carved wooden sculpture as well as two other pieces working with children at the school. These are sited on grass in front of the entrance. Above the main entrance are three carved reliefs in stone which were made at the time the school was built in 1951.
